thanks so much for joining us. kathy, i know you can't speak specifically to herman cain's case due to privacy laws, he's written about this. generally speaking, colon cancer is the third most common cancer. he had stage four specifically. when you first heard that what are the odds for someone like him? what makes a difference in his survival? >> well what really makes a difference here is, number one, how extensive the disease is. in his case, as well as in other patients, there are those individuals that can undergo surgical resection. and that's a decision made between a group of doctors. usually a medical oncologist, a surgical oncologist, and sometimes if the tumor is still intact in the colon and rectum, a colorectal surgery. so it's looking at ct scans, x-rays, everything else, looking at the patient as a whole and making a decision upon whether or not they can or cannot be surgical resected. that's really the way to cure the patient. >> my understanding is that he had chemotherapy, then he his operation to

tom, thanks for being with us. the defense cross-examined the coroner's investigator trying to to show she made a number of mistakes in jackson's room. was their argument effective? >> i thought he did a very good job. he was very prepared. he left no stone unturned. he didn't bully the witness but he was firm in his cross. no investigation is ever perfect and no investigator is ever perfect. the question is, with some of these imperfections or inconsistencies rise to a significant level? they may or may not. it depends on how they play into other evidence that comes up later in the trial. right now, i didn't hear anything that was fatal. but you don't know how it's going to connect with other things later on. >> the investor was saying, i didn't mention the iv bag in the initial report but in a more detailed report later on, i did. >> that's right. of course, he's suggesting it's suspicious that you were influenced by prosecutors and by witnesses, that kind of thing. that's where he was coming from, in my opinion.

what can you tell us about the search? >> reporter: this fbi team spend much of the day at a landfill, not too far from kansas city. we're told that search didn't turn up any kind of evidence or clues that might help them in the search for the missing baby girl, 10-month-old lisa irwin. the home is the one you see behind me. authorities say it was the window on the edge of the house there the mother of the baby had said or they had found opened and believed that might be a point of entry. as you mentioned, still no evidence or no indication perhaps any had broken into this home. what makes this all the more interesting is that kansas city police yesterday saying that the parents just abruptly refused to continue talking i with investigators as they continued to ask them about this case. however, the parents of 10-month-old lisa went on the morning shows and said they're still wanting to talk to authorities. we're told in kansas city despite having said that this morning, they have not spoken with authorities all day today.
